Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement

The Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement (MGOCSM) is Asia's oldest Christian student organization, named after its patron saint, St. Geevarghese Mar Gregorios of Parumala. It serves high school and college students of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The organization is led by H.H. Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, with H.G. Abraham Mar Seraphim as President and H.G. Zacharias Mar Aprem as Vice President.

Mission and Objectives

MGOCSM follows the motto "Worship, Study, Service" and aims to:

  • Deepen spiritual lives and create a lively spiritual fellowship among students.
  • Witness the Lordship of Jesus Christ, spread the gospel, and grow as disciples.

Inauguration

The MGOCSM unit at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Syrian Church, Padamughal, was inaugurated on August 11, 2024, at 10 a.m. Our respected vicar, Fr. John George, played a key role in initiating the unit and presided over the inaugural function.

Activities

The MGOCSM unit organizes:

  • Prayer fellowships and Bible studies
  • Leadership in church services and support for church activities
  • Bible quizzes, scripture-based programs, and games
  • Charity visits and support for needy students
  • Educational orientation classes on faith, liturgy, and personality development
  • Attend leadership training, conferences, camps, and competitions organized by centre.
  • Discussions, debates, and newsletters/magazines

Membership

Any student aged 13 or above, enrolled in an educational institution, and a member of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church is eligible to join MGOCSM.

About MGOCSM

The student movement was founded with the noble goal of uniting Orthodox Christian students from various educational institutions into one organization. MGOCSM aims to deepen their understanding of Orthodox faith and traditions, support spiritual growth, and foster Christian fellowship. As future leaders of the Orthodox Church, it's crucial to nurture and guide the young toward fruitful development.
